Pride Flag History Day

Do you know the story behind the Pride Flag? The colors.

The original Pride Flag was made up of 8 colors, and first flown on June 25, 1978, at San Francisco's United Nations Plaza for Gay Pride Day. Each color has a meaning, and the first flags were hand made (dyed and stitched).

Hot pink - Sex

Red - Life

Orange - Healing

Yellow - Sunlight

Green - Nature

Turquoise - Magic/Art

Indigo - Serenity

Violet - Spirit

The colors of the flag were modified over time based on availability of fabric, and then also only 6 colors was easier to reproduce. The most common form is now red, orange, yellow, green, indigo and violet.
